Olympique Lyonnais, officially founded on 3 August 1950 in France's third-largest city, achieved a historic record of seven consecutive Ligue 1 championships from 2001-02 to 2007-08 — a feat unmatched in French football. The club plays at the Groupama Stadium in Décines-Charpieu, a 59,000-seat modern arena opened in 2016. Lyon have won seven Ligue 1 titles, five Coupe de France trophies, and were a consistent UEFA Champions League presence during their dominant era, defeating Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United along the way.
