CSKA Sofia protiv Derry City

CSKA Sofia edged past Derry City 3-2 in a pulsating Europa League first qualifying round opener at the Vasil Levski, with Ioannis Pittas delivering a decisive brace to secure the hosts' advantage. CSKA Sofia broke the deadlock in the 19th minute through Pittas, but Liam Boyce pulled Derry City level in the 31st. Bruno Jordão nudged the hosts back in front just before the break. Pittas then doubled his tally in the 53rd minute to make it 3-1 and seemingly settle the tie, before James Olayinka headed home in the 88th minute to spark a nervy finale. CSKA held on. CSKA Sofia head into the second leg holding a one-goal cushion and home form behind them. Derry City can take some encouragement from netting twice away from home, but they will need a sharp performance at the Brandywell to turn this tie around.
