Rayo Vallecano vs Elche

Elche won 3-0 at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, with two first-half penalties and a late counter-attack settling a match played against a backdrop of protest in Vallecas. Rayo supporters left the terrace behind one goal empty. Federico Redondo put Elche ahead from the spot after Florian Lejeune fouled Roy Revivo. A VAR check then led to a second penalty, after a foul on Lemar, and Fer Niño took that one himself. Soon afterwards Pathé Ciss had a chance to pull one back for Rayo, but his penalty for a Buba Sangaré handball hit the crossbar and flew out of the ground. In the second half Germán Valera broke clear and chipped Emil Audero to complete the scoring. Matías Dituro had little to do at the other end. It was a third consecutive clean sheet for Elche, who had conceded twelve goals in their first four games, and the result lifts them out of the relegation zone before they host Valencia. Rayo go into that week with the fans still angry.
