Match Report
Independiente Rivadavia pulled off a stunning away upset at the Maracanã, beating Fluminense 1-2 to cement their place as early pace-setters in the Copa Libertadores group stage.
Guilherme Arana gave Fluminense a dream start in the 9th minute after a cross from Savarino, but Rivadavia hit back through a Fabrizio Sartori header from a free kick just before the break (36'). Alex Arce then capitalised on a defensive error to finish from close range in the 50th, effectively sealing the win. Sartori was later booked (67'), as was Fluminense substitute Wesley Natã moments after coming on (83').
Fluminense pressed hard in the second half, with Savarino going close in the 60th minute, but goalkeeper Nicolás Bolcato stood firm to preserve the lead.
Independiente Rivadavia now top the group with a perfect six points from two games, while Fluminense face mounting pressure after back-to-back defeats in what is already shaping up to be a demanding campaign.
