Wolves vs Sunderland

A point apiece at Molineux as Wolves and Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw. The defining moment came in the 24th minute when Dan Ballard was dismissed after VAR spotted violent conduct that referee Paul Tierney had missed. Nordi Mukiele opened the scoring in the 17th minute, heading home a Granit Xhaka cross to give Sunderland the lead. The red card for Ballard — caught pulling Tolu Arokodare's hair — forced the visitors to dig in a man short for most of the match. They held firm until the break, but Santiago Bueno levelled for Wolves with a header in the 54th minute. Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages without finding it. The result changes little for Wolves, already relegated and counting down their final Premier League games before dropping into the Championship. Sunderland, safely placed in 12th, will rue leaving with only a point against a side with nothing left to play for.
