VfB Stuttgart vs SV Werder Bremen

Stuttgart beat Werder Bremen 1-0 on Saturday, and the whole match turned on a goal in the seventh minute. Maximilian Mittelstädt finished a cross-field pass from Grischa Prömel under the bar, and the home side then spent most of the afternoon defending it. Bremen pushed hard after the break. Niclas Füllkrug had four shots and won more duels than anyone on the pitch, but Dennis Seimen stopped the efforts that tested him. Marco Grüll limped off with a calf problem in the 67th minute, and a late turn and shot from Reis in the 75th was the last real chance. Yanik Spalt, 19, played 83 minutes in his first start for Stuttgart. The result ended a run of seven unbeaten games for Bremen, whose previous defeat came on 30 August. They stay fifth on 15 points. Stuttgart climb to eighth on 12, after a 4-2 win at Leverkusen last time out.
