Match Report
Santa Clara and Nacional Share Wild 2-2 Draw
Santa Clara and Nacional shared the points in a thrilling 2-2 draw on the Primeira Liga's opening weekend, with Gonçalo Paciência's early double threatening a rout before Nacional roared back to level things before halftime.
Paciência struck twice in two minutes, finishing a defensive error in the 19th and heading home from a corner in the 21st to put the hosts in command. Nacional hit back before the break: Igor Liziero converted a 36th-minute penalty after Guilherme Romão fouled Markus Jensen, and Miguel Baeza leveled with a well-struck effort from distance right on the stroke of halftime. Goalkeeper Renato Marín then kept out Santa Clara's late second-half chances to preserve the point.
A point apiece leaves both sides level after matchday one, a fair result given how wildly the opening 45 minutes swung. Santa Clara will rue letting a two-goal lead slip at home, while Nacional take real encouragement from their fightback.
