Match Report
Morocco salvaged a 1-1 draw against Ecuador thanks to a dramatic 88th-minute equaliser from Neil El Aynaoui in new coach Mohamed Ouahbi's first match in charge. The entertaining friendly at Madrid's Metropolitano saw the Atlas Lions fight back after a frustrating second half.
Ecuador broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart when John Yeboah finished coolly into the bottom corner following a slick assist from Gonzalo Plata. Morocco were handed a lifeline with a penalty shortly after the hour mark, but El Aynaoui saw his spot-kick saved. Moments later, Mohamed Hrimat thought he had levelled, only for VAR to chalk it off.
Just when it looked like defeat was certain, El Aynaoui made amends by powering home a header from an Achraf Hakimi corner in the 88th minute to snatch a share of the spoils.
It wasn't the winning start Ouahbi would have wanted after replacing Walid Regragui, but the fightback will give Morocco plenty of encouragement as they build towards the 2026 World Cup on home soil.
