Match Report
Monaco pulled off a gutsy second-half comeback to beat Lyon 2-1 at the Groupama Stadium on Matchday 27, turning the game on its head after trailing at the break. Folarin Balogun's 72nd-minute penalty proved the decisive blow in a fiery contest that saw two red cards in the closing stages.
Pavel Sulc had given the hosts the lead just before half-time, finishing coolly in the 42nd minute. But Monaco roared back after the interval, with Maghnes Akliouche levelling on 62 minutes before Balogun stepped up to convert from the spot ten minutes later.
The closing stages turned ugly as Lyon defender Nicolas Tagliafico was shown a straight red card for a serious foul in the 89th minute, while Monaco boss Sebastien Pocognoli was also dismissed from the touchline.
The result lifts Monaco to within a single point of fourth-placed Lyon in the Ligue 1 table, injecting fresh life into the race for European qualification.
