Match Report
Uruguay Rout India 6-1 in Kolkata Friendly
Uruguay put on a clinical display to thrash India 6-1 in Kolkata, with the match even pausing briefly in the first half after lightning was detected near the stadium, forcing players off for a weather delay before action resumed.
Darwin Nunez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute after Pramveer Singh brought down Federico Vinas in the box, but Anirudh Thapa hauled India level soon after. That proved to be the hosts' only moment of joy, as Maxi Araujo struck twice either side of goals from Renzo Zalazar, Juan Sanabria and Renzo Aguirre as Uruguay poured forward relentlessly, scoring four times in the second half alone. Nicolas Nandez picked up a yellow card along the way.
For Uruguay, it was an ideal warm-up showing their attacking depth and sharpness. For India, Thapa's early leveler offered a brief highlight, but the gulf in class was clear as the friendly exposed how much work remains before facing stiffer international tests.
