Son Heung-min's Free-Kick Stunner Sinks Ecuador
South Korea put on a dominant second-half display to beat Ecuador 3-0 in a Suwon friendly, turning an even first half into a rout after the break. The standout moment was an absolute rocket of a free-kick from Son Heung-min, curled into the net to double the hosts' lead.
Oh Hyeon-gyu broke the deadlock in the 54th minute with a right-footed strike from outside the box, assisted by Kim Min-jae, before Son Heung-min struck in the 58th. Substitute Lee Dong-gyeong added a third in the 86th minute, finishing low after being set up by fellow sub Kim Bong-soo. Goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu also came up big, denying Ecuador with a crucial save in the 75th minute, while both sides picked up a string of yellow cards as tempers occasionally flared.
The result marked a winning start for interim boss Robert Moreno in charge of South Korea, whose pressing and quick transitions overwhelmed their opponents after the interval. For Ecuador, it was a rough debut for new coach Marcelo Gallardo, whose side created early chances but faded badly, leaving plenty of work to do before their next outing.
