Match Report
Díaz hat-trick sends Bayern past Leipzig and top of the table
Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, with Luis Díaz scoring three times and the visitors never in the game after the opening quarter hour.
Díaz opened the scoring in the 12th minute from a Joshua Kimmich assist. Aleksandar Pavlović made it 2-0 in the 26th, set up by Díaz, and Michael Olise added a third in the 34th with Harry Kane providing the pass. Díaz struck again two minutes into the second half, again from a Kane assist, and Kane scored himself in the 53rd, in his 100th Bundesliga appearance. Díaz completed his hat-trick in the 69th, Olise supplying the final ball.
Leipzig's only reply came in stoppage time, when substitute Andrija Maksimović scored in the 91st minute. Bayern's expected goals total was 4.27, against 0.62 for Leipzig.
The win lifts Bayern Munich to 14 points and top of the table, level with Borussia Dortmund but ahead on goal difference. Freiburg, on 13, can overtake them if they win at Leverkusen on Sunday. Bayern host Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, then visit Freiburg on 25 October.
