Match Report

Austria made a real statement ahead of the 2026 World Cup, dismantling Ghana 5-1 in a FIFA Series friendly at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. Marcel Sabitzer set the tone early, coolly converting a 12th-minute penalty to give the hosts a lead they never looked like losing. Michael Gregoritsch doubled the advantage six minutes into the second half (51'), before defender Stefan Posch got in on the act to make it 3-0 on 59 minutes. Jordan Ayew briefly gave Ghana hope with a well-taken finish on 77', but debutant Carney Chukwuemeka restored the four-goal cushion just two minutes later. Nicolas Seiwald completed the rout deep in stoppage time (90'+2) as the 40,200 crowd lapped it up. With debutants Chukwuemeka and Wanner impressing on the big stage, Austria will head into the World Cup brimming with confidence, while Ghana have serious questions to answer after a chastening night in Vienna.
