The Luxembourg national football team, governed by the Football Federation of Luxembourg, has competed under FIFA since 1910, making it one of the sport's oldest associations. For decades Luxembourg was considered a minnow, but the team experienced a remarkable transformation in the 2010s under coach Luc Holtz, rising significantly in the FIFA world rankings. Luxembourg reached its highest-ever ranking around 85th in the world, reflecting consistent performances in UEFA Nations League League C. Notable players include Gerson Rodrigues, who played for Dynamo Kyiv, and Leandro Barreiro of Benfica. Luxembourg plays home matches at Stade de Luxembourg in Kirchberg, Ville de Luxembourg. Their improved performances have included memorable results against top European nations, and the team now regularly challenges for Nations League promotion and respectable showings in European Championship qualifiers.
