Spain made light work of Austria in Los Angeles, winning 2-0 in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to book their place in the next round with plenty to spare. The match turned decisively in the 36th minute when Mikel Oyarzabal redirected a cross from Marc Cucurella first-time past the Austrian keeper. It was a moment of sharp instinct that set the tone for a commanding afternoon. A Spain goal had already been chalked off at the 28-minute mark, Cucurella's finish disallowed for an infringement at the corner, before Pedro Porro put the tie to bed in the 66th minute, arriving late to head home a floated cross from Álex Baena. Austria, despite making four substitutions in a bid to respond, never seriously threatened. For Spain, it's a sixth straight clean sheet and a statement of title intent. For Austria, it's the end of a historic run, their first knockout-stage appearance since 1954.
