Asociación Deportiva San Carlos was founded in 1965 in Ciudad Quesada (also known as San Carlos) in the northern highland region of Costa Rica. The club competes in the Primera División and plays home matches at the Estadio Carlos Ugalde Álvarez, a 6,200-capacity ground that draws passionate support from the surrounding agricultural community. San Carlos has been a consistent presence in Costa Rican top-flight football for decades, earning a reputation as a resilient and well-organised side that regularly competes against the country's traditional powerhouses. While major silverware has remained elusive, the club has won the second division title and achieved notable Copa de Copa results. San Carlos is celebrated for its strong community roots and for nurturing local talent from the greater Alajuela region.
