Fortuna Sittard is a Dutch football club founded in 1968 through the merger of Fortuna '54 and RKSV Sittardia, in Sittard, a city in the southern province of Limburg. Competing in the Eredivisie, the club plays at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion. Known as 'De Fortunezen,' the club carries the proud football tradition of the Limburg region, which has a distinct culture and dialect influenced by its proximity to Belgium and Germany. Fortuna Sittard has attracted international investment in recent years, including backing from a Turkish ownership group, which helped fund stadium improvements and player acquisitions. Their green and yellow colours are instantly recognisable. The club is celebrated for its attacking football and passionate local supporter base in one of the Netherlands' most culturally unique regions.
