Standard Liège vs Westerlo

Standard Liège and KVC Westerlo played out a goalless draw at Stade Maurice Dufrasne in Round 30 of the Pro League. The defining moment came in the 77th minute when Westerlo's Doğucan Haspolat stepped up to take a VAR-awarded penalty, and missed, summing up a desperately frustrating afternoon for the visitors. Westerlo were the better side throughout, peppering Standard's goal with 21 shots to the hosts' seven and controlling 53% of possession. Yet they managed just three efforts on target and converted none. Haspolat had already been booked in first-half stoppage time before his penalty heartbreak, while Ibe Hautekiet, Casper Nielsen and David Bates all picked up yellows as Standard committed 14 fouls trying to stem the tide. The draw leaves Standard eighth on 40 points, one ahead of Westerlo in ninth. It is the visitors who will rue this one most, total dominance without a finishing touch to show for it.
