Peñarol vs Platense

Platense pulled off a road upset at the Estadio Campeón del Siglo, defeating Peñarol 2-1 in the CONMEBOL Libertadores. The turning point came when Eric Remedi's handball gifted the visitors a decisive penalty late in the second half. Guido Mainero broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with a composed header, setting the tone for a disciplined Platense display. Peñarol equalized through Matías Arezo in the 57th minute, with Luis Angulo providing the assist. But Remedi's handball moments later saw Franco Zapiola coolly convert from the spot in the 62nd minute. Franco Escobar compounded the hosts' misery by picking up a second yellow card deep into stoppage time, leaving Peñarol with ten men. A grim night for Peñarol, who were also missing injured playmaker Leonardo Fernández and now sit with just one point from two Group E games. Platense, meanwhile, celebrated their first Copa Libertadores win and climbed into a strong position in the group standings.
