Maritimo vs Benfica

Benfica made light work of Maritimo at the Estádio Municipal, taking control early and never looking back on their way to a comfortable away win in this Primeira Liga round five clash. The visitors dictated the tempo from the first whistle, leaving the home side chasing shadows for long stretches. Leandro Barreiro was the star of the show, opening the scoring in the 10th minute and doubling his tally in the 70th to put the result beyond doubt. Substitute Prestianni added gloss to the scoreline with a late strike in the 85th minute. Bookings were shown to Vladan Danilovic for Maritimo, while Benfica picked up yellow cards of their own through Georgiy Sudakov, Vangelis Pavlidis, Tomás Araújo, and Alessandro Circati as the game grew feisty in patches. For Maritimo, it was another difficult afternoon offensively, with the hosts struggling to create meaningful chances against a well-organized visiting side. Benfica, meanwhile, continue to look sharp early in the campaign, with Barreiro's form in front of goal a particularly encouraging sign as they keep pace at the top of the table.
