CSKA Sofia – Monaco

Monaco opened their Conference League campaign with a 2-1 win away at CSKA Sofia, scoring after three minutes and again just before the break, then holding on through five minutes of added time. Paris Brunner put the visitors ahead in the 3rd minute, finishing from the centre of the box after a quick counter and a pass from Stanis Idumbo. Ansu Fati made it 2-0 in the 43rd, going through on another break set up by Brunner, and the goal stood after a VAR check. The home side grew into the second half. Joel Zwarts, just off the bench, headed in a Stefano Sensi corner in the 76th minute. Denis Zakaria had earlier hit the post for Monaco, and Catalin Itu had a blocked shot in the 94th minute that would have levelled it. Monaco also lost Lamine Camara and Idumbo to injury. Monaco take three points from matchday one. CSKA, who dropped into this competition after a 5-0 aggregate loss to OFI Crete in the Europa League playoff, start with none.
