Slovakia
The Slovakia national football team, governed by the Slovak Football Association, has built a solid reputation in European football since the country's independence in 1993. Slovakia famously reached the FIFA World Cup round of 16 in 2010, defeating eventual runners-up Italy 3-2 in the group stage — a result that shocked European football. The team also reached UEFA Euro 2016. Slovakia has produced exceptional talent including Miroslav Karhan, Marek Hamšík — their all-time leading scorer — and Marek Mintal. Under coach Francesco Calzona, Slovakia qualified for UEFA Euro 2024, where they defeated Belgium in the group stage before being eliminated by England in extra time. The team plays home matches at the Národný futbalový štadión in Bratislava and continues to be a competitive force in European qualifiers.
