The Mongolia national football team, nicknamed the Wolves, is governed by the Mongolian Football Federation, which was founded in 1959 and became a FIFA member in 1994. Mongolia competes within the Asian Football Confederation in World Cup qualifying and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Football in Mongolia has historically been at a developing stage given the harsh climate, vast geography, and competition from traditional sports like wrestling. However, the sport has grown significantly in the 21st century with improved facilities and a professional domestic league. The team plays home matches at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar. While Mongolia has yet to qualify for a major continental or global tournament, the federation has invested in youth football and coaching education to accelerate progress and compete more effectively in AFC qualification campaigns.
