Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands national football team, governed by the Fótbóltssamband Føroya (FSF) and affiliated with UEFA since 1988, is one of European football's most admired minnow sides. The team caused one of football's great upsets in their very first competitive match in 1990, defeating Austria 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier. Despite their small population of around 50,000, the Faroe Islands have consistently competitive in UEFA Nations League play, earning promotion from League D to League C. Home matches are played at Tórsvøllur in Tórshavn, which holds 6,000 spectators. Notable players include Fróði Benjaminsen, Pól Jóannes Justinussen, and Klæmint Olsen. The team's organisation, team spirit, and tactical discipline have made them one of Europe's most respected smaller nations.
