Colo Colo

Club Social y Deportivo Colo-Colo, founded on April 19, 1925, in Santiago by David Arellano and named after a legendary Mapuche chieftain who symbolised indigenous resistance, plays at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano in the Macul district — the largest stadium in Chile with over 47,000 capacity. The most successful club in Chilean history with a record 34 Primera División titles and 14 Copa Chile crowns, Colo-Colo made history in 1991 as the first — and still only — Chilean club to win the Copa Libertadores, defeating Olimpia in the final. Striker Carlos Caszely, the all-time record scorer with 208 goals, and Iván Zamorano, who starred at Real Madrid and Inter Milan, are among the club's greatest legends. Known as El Cacique (The Chief) or El Popular, Colo-Colo command Chile's largest fanbase and are a deeply embedded cultural institution.
