The Benin national football team, nicknamed the Squirrels, has represented the West African nation since the federation's establishment in 1962. Governed by the Fédération Béninoise de Football, the team competes in FIFA World Cup qualifying rounds and the Africa Cup of Nations. Their most celebrated achievement came at AFCON 2019 in Egypt, where they reached the Round of 16 for the first time in their history, defeating Morocco in the process. The squad draws players from both the domestic league and players abroad, particularly in France and Belgium. Coaches such as Michel Dussuyer guided the team through notable qualification campaigns. The team plays home matches primarily at Stade de l'Amitié in Cotonou, which holds around 35,000 spectators.
