AZ Alkmaar is a professional football club founded in 1967 in Alkmaar, in the North Holland province of the Netherlands. The club plays at the AFAS Stadion and competes in the Dutch Eredivisie. Known simply as AZ, the club has won two Eredivisie titles, in 1981 and 2009, and has been a consistent competitor in European football. AZ are celebrated for their modern, progressive football philosophy and have produced numerous talented players through their acclaimed youth academy. Under coaches like Louis van Gaal and Dick Advocaat, AZ have played stylish, attacking football.
