Association Sportive de Monaco, founded in 1919 in the tiny but glamorous principality on the French Riviera, play their home matches at the intimate Stade Louis II and compete in the French top flight despite representing a city of just two square kilometres. The club has won eight Ligue 1 titles and five Coupe de France trophies, and reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2004. Their brilliant 2016-17 season under Leonardo Jardim — when a teenage Kylian Mbappé and Radamel Falcao powered them to the title and a Champions League semi-final — remains the pinnacle of modern Monaco football. The club is renowned for developing and selling elite talent, including Thierry Henry, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, and Mbappé himself.
