A place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals is on offer when Everton host Newcastle at Hill Dickinson Stadium on 29 October. It is the first League Cup meeting between the clubs since 2002, when Everton won 6-5 on penalties. In the league, the sides were close in mid-September: Everton seventh on nine points, Newcastle ninth on eight, both after five games. Everton got here by beating Preston and then Wolves 1-0, with substitute Charly Alcaraz scoring ten minutes from time. James Garner, back from injury, says the squad has talked about winning the competition, something the club has never done. Newcastle beat Millwall 1-0 in round three and won 2-1 against Hull in the league on 19 September. Newcastle won 4-1 at Hill Dickinson last November, their first win there. Everton have still taken three of the last six meetings, including a 3-1 friendly win in Edinburgh this summer. Our prediction: 2-1
