Индепендиенте Вале против Фламенго

Independiente del Valle dominated the ball for long stretches at the Atahualpa but left empty-handed, falling 0-2 to Flamengo in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores quarter-final. The standout moment came early, when Carlos González rattled the post in the 19th minute on the hosts' best chance of the night, a warning sign of the frustration to come. Flamengo stayed patient and struck through two clinical counters. Bruno Henrique broke the deadlock in the 61st minute after a swift transition set up by Samuel Lino, and Léo Pereira doubled the lead in the 75th, heading home a cross from Emerson Royal. González was forced off injured before the second goal, blunting the hosts' attack, while goalkeeper Rossi held firm at the other end. The result leaves Independiente del Valle needing a big comeback in the return leg at the Maracanã on September 17, while Flamengo, the reigning champion, takes a commanding advantage into that decider with a semifinal spot against Corinthians or Estudiantes on the line.
