AZ Alkmaar vs H. Beer Sheva

AZ Alkmaar picked up their first points of the Europa League league phase on Thursday, beating Hapoel Beer Sheva 2-1 at the AFAS Stadion. The winner was a penalty scored by a substitute with his first touch. The first half passed without a goal. Peer Koopmeiners broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, shooting low past the Hapoel keeper from a Valdemar Byskov pass. Forson Amankwah levelled six minutes later after a mistake by AZ goalkeeper Jari De Busser. In the 77th minute the referee pointed to the spot after a VAR review for a foul on Kovacs. Mexx Meerdink had only just come on and converted. De Busser then stopped a Forson volley in the 80th minute, and Stengs was denied by Marciano at the other end. The visitors' supporters were not allowed into the ground for security reasons, and there were demonstrations in Alkmaar. AZ lost 1-0 at Sunderland on matchday one and now have three points from two games. Hapoel Beer Sheva have one, after their 0-0 draw with Dinamo Zagreb.
