Racing Santander beat Espanyol 2-1 at El Sardinero, turning the game around in a 22-minute spell after the visitors had gone ahead. The home side finished with 23 shots to 11, and only one of Espanyol's reached the target. Edu Expósito gave Espanyol the lead in the 62nd minute, with Javi Hernández setting him up. Racing levelled seven minutes later when Jeanuël Belocian scored from a rebound, and Yassir Zabiri got the winner in the 84th, his eighth goal of the season. Matteo Prati went off injured in the 67th minute. There was a fair amount of grumbling too. The VAR looked at a possible penalty for Racing after a handball by Pablo Ramón, but the referee ruled out a foul on Belocian first. Espanyol's bench also complained about a foul by Roberto Fernández that went unpunished. Espanyol collected six yellow cards, among them one for their coach Manolo González. The result lifts Racing to 11th on 11 points. Espanyol are 18th on 8 points, inside the relegation places, and questions are being asked about González's future. Racing host Real Madrid next Sunday, the first visit of Madrid to El Sardinero in fourteen years.
