Rennes vs Marseille

Rennes edged past Marseille 1-0 at Roazhon Park to climb to the summit of Ligue 1, riding a run of momentum that Marseille simply couldn't disrupt. It wasn't the hosts who dictated the early tempo, though, that much was clear from the opening exchanges. Marseille actually looked the sharper side for long stretches, with Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg dictating play from midfield and the wide men stretching Rennes' defense. Igor Paixão tested Brice Samba, who also had to parry away a stinging long-range strike from Timothy Weah. But Rennes found their breakthrough after the break: Adrien Thomasson struck in the 52nd minute to settle it. Coach Franck Haise's introduction of Musa Al-Tamari for Issa Soumaré injected fresh energy into an attack that had otherwise struggled to click. The result extends Rennes' winning run to three straight and vaults them to the top of the table, a strong statement of intent early in the season. For Marseille, it's a third consecutive defeat, a worrying slide that will pile pressure on the squad to regroup quickly before the gap at the top grows further.
