Venezia vs Napoli

Venezia collected their first points of the season at the Penzo, beating Napoli 1-0 on the day Davide Nicola took charge. The hosts had lost all seven of their games in Serie A and the Coppa Italia before this one, and Giovanni Stroppa had been dismissed as coach. The only goal came four minutes after the restart. Lucca misjudged a touch in midfield, Venezia broke quickly and Simon Sohm sent a long ball forward. Akor Adams shrugged off Amir Rrahmani and shot, and a deflection off the defender took it past Alex Meret in the 49th minute. Napoli had their chance to level in the 68th minute when Kevin De Bruyne took a penalty, but Filip Stankovic read it and saved. The goalkeeper made other stops too, and Juan Jesus, up against his old club, blocked a Rasmus Hojlund effort on the line late on. For Napoli, coached by Massimiliano Allegri, it follows a 3-1 Champions League defeat at Villarreal. Venezia started the day bottom of the table without a point and now have three.
