Alaves vs Mallorca

Deportivo Alavés staged a gutsy comeback at Mendizorroza on Saturday, overturning an early deficit to beat Mallorca 2-1 in a pivotal LaLiga relegation clash. The afternoon belonged to Toni Martínez, whose composed second-half brace swung the points firmly in the hosts' favour. Mallorca drew first blood when Jan Virgili tucked away a sharp 17th-minute effort to silence the home crowd. Alavés responded with growing authority, and Martínez levelled on 55 minutes with a well-timed header from an Abde Rebbach cross. He completed the turnaround in the 68th, finishing calmly after a slick Ángel Pérez assist. Jonathan Otto and Martin Valjent traded yellow cards without further major incident, the story was Alavés' dominance, outshoooting the visitors 15 to 4. The three points are a lifeline for Alavés, who had been rooted in the drop zone heading into the weekend. Mallorca, who arrived just two points above the relegation places, now find themselves in increasingly precarious territory as the season reaches its final straight.
