FC 트벤터 vs 툰

Twente won their Conference League opener 1-0 against Thun at the Grolsch Veste, and it took a VAR decision to separate the sides. The first half brought plenty of pressure from the hosts but no goal. Sondre Orjasaeter saw a shot saved by Niklas Steffen, Wout Weghorst dragged a low cross just wide, and a Daouda Weidmann effort was ruled out by VAR in the 24th minute for a foul in the build-up. The game turned around the hour mark. Referee first booked Ramiz Zerrouki for a tangle with Patrik Kristal, but VAR looked again and Kristal was sent off for a challenge with his studs on Zerrouki's lower leg. Five minutes later Weidmann backheeled the ball into Zerrouki's path and Zerrouki side-footed it into the far corner for the only goal in the 65th minute. Twente had further chances through Weidmann and Weghorst but could not add a second. Thun, down to ten men, rarely threatened. The win gives coach John van den Brom's side three points from their first league phase game, while Thun start with none.
