Brighton left Madrid with a 1-0 win over Getafe in the Conference League, decided by one header after an evening of few clear chances at the Coliseum. The first half finished goalless. Bart Verbruggen had to be sharp for the visitors, denying Iván Azón in the 31st minute and then Martín Satriano twice, in the 56th and 60th. Four saves in all gave him a clean sheet. Lewis Dunk did not come out for the second half and was replaced by Luka Vušković. The breakthrough arrived in the 64th minute. Costinha nodded the ball on and Malick Yalcouyé headed it from the centre of the box into the top right corner. It was Brighton's only goal and it was enough. The game turned scrappy late on, with Michael Svoboda and Georginio Rutter booked a minute apart, and Johan Mojica picked up Getafe's only caution. No red cards were shown. Brighton had four points from their first two games, so this should lift them to seven. Getafe came in with one point from three and have lost two of those. They had at least moved out of the La Liga relegation zone by beating Sevilla on Sunday.
