Эвертон – Ньюкасл Юнайтед

Everton beat Newcastle 3-1 in the Carabao Cup fourth round at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, building a three-goal lead before the visitors found a late reply. It was a scrappy, bad-tempered night, and Everton took their chances better than a side that had plenty of the ball. James Garner opened the scoring in the 34th minute, finishing first time into the bottom corner after Tyrique George won the ball back off Dedić. Hayden Hackney made it 2-0 just before the break with a low finish from a Thierno Barry pass. Newcastle had appealed for a penalty when Harvey Barnes went down shortly before that, but nothing was given. Barry added the third in the 69th minute from a cutback by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Dan Burn headed in an Anthony Elanga cross in the 88th minute, and tempers frayed in the closing stages, with bookings for Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski, Burn and Joelinton. Newcastle had made three changes at half-time, but could not turn their pressure into goals. Everton go into the quarter-finals after defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal. Newcastle, who won at Crystal Palace on Sunday, are out of the competition.
