The American Samoa national football team is governed by the Football Federation American Samoa (FFAS) and competes in the OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) zone. For much of their history, American Samoa was best known for suffering one of football's most infamous defeats — a 31-0 loss to Australia in 2001 — long the heaviest defeat in international football history. However, the team underwent a remarkable transformation, famously documented in the film 'Next Goal Wins,' coaching under Thomas Rongen, and achieved their first-ever competitive win against Tonga in 2011 World Cup qualifiers. Based in Pago Pago, the team has continued to develop its youth programs and local league infrastructure, making steady progress within the OFC and representing a powerful story of sporting resilience and community spirit.
