Pumas UNAM snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Club América in the Clásico Capitalino, with Robert Morales converting a stoppage-time penalty to send Estadio Olímpico Universitario into raptures on Matchday 12 of the Clausura 2026. The match looked destined for a goalless draw until Cristian Borja brought down Guillermo Martínez inside the box deep into added time. Referee César Ramos initially waved play on, but VAR intervened and pointed to the spot. Morales stepped up coolly and sent goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota the wrong way. América felt aggrieved moments later when appeals for a handball against Tony Leone were dismissed after another VAR check, but the decision stood. The win lifts Pumas into the Clausura top five as the playoff race heats up, while América slip further behind in the bottom half of the table with mounting pressure on their campaign.
