Nice vs Lorient

Nice and Lorient opened their Ligue 1 campaigns with a tense stalemate at the Allianz Riviera, the hosts controlling possession but unable to find a breakthrough. The standout moment arrived deep into stoppage time, when Lorient won a corner and came agonisingly close to snatching a dramatic winner, only for the deadlock to survive. Zoumana Diallo picked up the match's lone yellow card as chances came and went at both ends. Jonathan Clauss repeatedly tested the Lorient defense (15', 17', 53'), with Sofiane Diop and Melvin Bard also going close for the hosts, while Lorient hit back through Jean-Victor Makengo and Gabin Bernardeau. Both goalkeepers stood tall to keep clean sheets intact. A point apiece leaves neither side thrilled but not too disappointed on opening weekend. Nice dominated the ball and created more chances, yet again lacked a clinical edge in front of goal. Lorient, meanwhile, will take real encouragement from a resilient away performance to start the new season.
