Sporting CP vs Maritimo

Sporting beat Marítimo 2-1 at the Estádio José Alvalade on Tuesday night to reach the Taça da Liga final four, though they had to hang on until the final whistle. Pedro Lima scored both goals. The first came just before half-time, when he headed a corner from Jesse Derry into the net at the near post. Derry had already hit the post with a free kick in the 41st minute. In the 71st minute Georgios Vagiannidis let fly from distance, goalkeeper Tabuaço parried it, and Pedro Lima put away the rebound at the third attempt. Adrián Butzke pulled one back late for the visitors and made the closing minutes tense. Igor Julião was Marítimo's main threat all night, and Rui Silva in the Sporting goal saved the two best chances he created. Sporting now go into the last four of the competition under Rui Borges, while Marítimo are out of the Taça da Liga.
