Gent vs Anderlecht

Gent beat Anderlecht 4-0 at the Planet Group Arena on Sunday evening, and the visitors will wonder how. They had most of the ball and the better chances for long spells, yet all four goals went to the home side. Abdelkahar Kadri put Gent ahead in the 14th minute after some loose defending. Anderlecht missed several good openings before the break, with Aasgaard, Araujo and Stroeykens all failing to convert. Mihajlo Cvetkovic also headed wide from close range. Jayden Onia Seke hit the bar after the restart. Leo Petrot was checked by VAR for a high foot but escaped a red card. The game was decided between the 73rd and 81st minutes. Ibrahima Cisse made it 2-0 in the 73rd, set up by Tiago Araujo. Momodou Sonko added a third in the 77th and Mathias Volckaert finished it in the 81st. Gent lead the table on 25 points. Anderlecht are fifth on 16, and the heavy defeat comes straight after their European win in Poland.
